Meike 50mm f1.8 Camera Lens (Boxed)
Having shot with 35mm and above, I've been desperate to try 25mm for both cinematic and photographic use! Meike presented me the opportunity in an affordable package - Queue the Meike 25mm F1.8.
Straight away I was impressed with this little lens, an all aluminium body paves the way for a really solid build. The aperture ring and focus rings spin smoothly (I did have a slight grind on the focus ring which did disappear after a bit of use). In addition, it features an clickless aperture ring which I found to be both a blessing and a curse. This is because whilst in low light situations, it was very easy to open and close the aperture, it was also easy to mistake for the focus ring... Despite this minor annoyance, for cinematography, the clickless aperture ring was a huge positive when recording video - ensuring very smooth transitions.
Moving on from the build, we stumbled onto the glass. Colour reproduction is as expected but this lens really shines in low light. I was really impressed with its low light capability, without pushing the iso too much and remaining sharp in the center. Sadly there is a slight vignette and drop of sharpness around the corners (Not that I minded) but for £64.99 I really can't complain. Thats all it cost! £64.99.
Below I will showcase photos from both an automotive and portrait standpoint as these are my speciality. I have also added a landscape example, alongside a product shot. These showcase not only other uses but the advantages and limitations of the lens.

Overall, for the price, I don't think this lens can be beaten. I prefer it over the other alternatives due to the more successful name behind the manufacturer (Meike), as well as, the additional metal lens cap and material lens bag which adds to the feel of quality - impressive in such a cheap lens. Well done Meike!
